TORBAY vs. WHITCHURCH ‘A’
Result: 1-1
Torbay arrived in South Wales for their bottom-of-the-league clash with plenty of time to spare after meeting an hour early at Penn Inn. The Torbay line up comprised most of the usual players, but Sam Beaman was away, so John Veale took his place at the back for the first time. With the usual wet Welsh weather set in, it was time for push-back. The first half saw many chances go amiss at both ends, with Buzzer coming nearest after hitting the post, as well as Walshy and Nick having good chances turned away by brilliant goal-keeping. However, it was Whitchurch who broke the deadlock, striking first from open-play after a Torbay effort broke down at the other end. Whitchurch enjoyed a lot possession but a strong Torbay defence saw them limited to just a single goal. It was not until half way through the second half, that Torbay really started to prize open the Whitchurch defence. After the keeper managed to save another shot from Buzzer, Nick pounced on the rebound, sending a reverse-stick shot goalbound, only to see it stopped on the line by a defenders foot! The umpires couldn’t have missed it, and we were awarded a flick with ten minutes to spare. Walshy slotted it down low in the bottom corner. 1-1. The rest of the game saw chances for both teams, however neither could convert them into goals. It ended in a draw, which was probably a fair scoreline and not a bad result for an away fixture. Providing we can play well when they come here, we should pick up three points.
