The DCHUA Umpiring Policy for the forth coming season is listed below and was discussed and agreed at the DCHUA Club and Umpiring Forum on 18 September 2006.

This is to be discussed with Officials and Team Representatives BEFORE EVERY GAME.

Swearing/Persistent Verbal Abuse or Dissent:

  1. An AUTOMATIC 10 minute yellow card:
    1. At Officials.
    2. At Opposition Team Members (including other actions designed to deliberately antagonise).
    3. Any action that brings the game into disrepute (e.g. throwing stick away, kicking field equipment, etc.).
  2. An AUTOMATIC 5 minute yellow card:
    1. Directed at Own Team Members.
    2. Continued ‘low level’ or ‘background’ questioning of umpiring decisions or dissent towards officials.
  3. Swearing and Frustration:
    1. The first instance should result in a VERBAL warning to the Player & Captain.
    2. A repeat offence should be penalised by a GREEN card to the player involved.
    3. Further breaches should attract a 5 minute YELLOW card.

Breaking Down Play:

Actions designed to deliberately break down play will typically be penalised by the issue of a Yellow Card. Some examples are (but not limited to those) shown below:

  1. Picking the ball up to deny the opposite possession of it.
  2. Knocking the ball away after the award of a free hit.
  3. Not retreating promptly at free hits or attempting to interfere with the stick or body.
  4. Tackling from a position where there was no prospect of ever playing the ball.

Dangerous Play:

Any deliberate actions of this sort will be penalised with the automatic issue of a Yellow Card.
